3 on fresh remand, one sent to jail
The CID yesterday took Gaus, Rana and Din Islam on fresh remand for four days in connection with the Nikunja Bihari Debnath murder case.
Debnath, a joint secretary of the government, was stabbed to death by muggers in the city on January 11
Din Islam's total remand period now stands at 14 days. For Gaus and Rana the total remand period will be 12 days, police said. There is no provision for remanding an accused for more than 15 days in a particular case.
Of the four suspects brought to the court yesterday, Mujib was sent to the jail after eight day's CID remand.
Gaus, Rana and Din Islam were not produced before the court but granted police remand by Magistrate Kazi Meraz Hussain yesterday.
All of them are being interrogated on the basis of judicial statement made by Shukur Ali, the prime suspect who in his statement named eight people as his accomplices.
