3 killed in Natore road crash

Three people were killed and two injured when a cattle-laden truck overturned on Natore-Rajshahi highway in Natore Sadar upazila early Thursday.

Deceased are Mukul Hossain, 45, of Narayanpur village of the upazila; and Fazlul Haque, 55, of Berathana village and Tayez Uddin Tajul, 40, of Gaorail village in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur, said Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Natore Sadar Police Station.

The accident took place when a Dhaka-bound cattle-laden truck struck an electric pole and overturned on the highway at Ekdaala around 1:30am, reported our Natore correspondent quoting the police official.

Cattle traders -- Tayez and Fazlul -- died on the spot while Mukul and two other traders sustained injuries, the police official said.

Mukul, a night guard in the area, succumbed to his injuries after locals whisked him off to Natore Sadar Hospital.

Police seized the vehicle while the trucker and his assistant fled the scene shortly after the accident.
