Two Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists have confessed their involvement with hurling crude bombs on Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu’s residence in Mirpur on June 9.
In their confessional statements before a magistrate in Dhaka on Sunday, Mahbubul Alam, 28, and Akil Mahmud, 32, said they had carried out the attacks at the direction of the Dhaka Uttar JCD president, court sources said.
The duo told the magistrate that they had been assured of providing with higher positions in the organisation in exchange for carrying out the attacks.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Erfan Ullah recorded the statements separately between 12:00pm and 5:00pm. He later sent them to jail.
Detectives produced the opposition activists before the magistrate after four days of their remand as the duo had agreed to narrate the incident.
Police earlier on June 25 arrested the activists of JCD, student wing of the main opposition BNP, on charges of hurling the bombs.
Later in the day, a Dhaka court granted a seven-day remand for the duo.
