128 students selected for final TV round

A total of 128 school students were selected at the end of the second round of Bangladesh First, a nationwide quiz contest on Bangladesh launched by The Daily Star and e-learning portal champs21.com, in the capital yesterday.
These students, to be divided into two-person teams, will now contest in the final TV round, to be aired by Maasranga TV from late October 2013.
The champion team will receive an educational award of Tk 5 lakh, the first runner up of Tk 3 lakh and the second of Tk 2 lakh. Detailed information is available at www.champs21.com.
“Rin presents Bangladesh First – powered by Standard Chartered Bank” tests students' knowledge on Bangladesh's geography, natural resources, history, literature, fine arts, renowned personalities and contemporary issues.
The second oral round began in six of the country's seven divisional cities two weeks ago, participated by some 800 students who passed the first multiple choice question round.
The first round, held in the seven cities simultaneously on September 6, was participated by some 8,000 students of classes VI to X from 80 champs21.com partner Bangla and English medium schools.
The second oral round was judged by a jury board comprising journalist Nauraz Imtiaz, writer Anik Khan, actress Agnila Iqbal, singer Sheikh Shahed, actor and journalist Schumonn Patwary and singer and journalist Elita Karim.
The second round for the last divisional city, Dhaka, was held in The Daily Star Centre where over 250 students from 42 schools arrived to compete. The Daily Star Managing Editor Salehuddin Ahmed and champs21.com CEO Russell T Ahmed were present.
