Teacher jailed for sexually harassing schoolgirl in Manikganj

A mobile court has sentenced a primary school teacher to six months imprisonment for sexually harassing a class IV female student in Saturia upazila of Manikganj.
The court of Saturia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahin Akhter gave the verdict on Thursday.
Earlier, police held the convict, Rafiqul Islam, an assistant teacher of Jalshuka Nasurpur Government Primary School, from the upazila complex area following complains of the victim's family members.
Six held with gun in Pabna

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested six alleged arms traders and seized a foreign made gun and two rounds of bullets from their possession at Kolerandi-Bottola in Ishwardi of Pabna Thursday night.
The arrested -- Biplob, Jewel, Mamun, Rashid, Raju, and Saidur -- hail from Jhenidah.
They were sent to jail yesterday.
A Rab-4 team from Mirpur in the capital raided the spot around 10:45pm and arrested them with the firearm and ammunition.
BNP leader strangled

Miscreants strangled a BNP leader in Pachmile area of sadar upazila in Khagrachhari on Thursday night.
Police recovered the body early yesterday.
The deceased Chan Mia, 40, son of Ashsaf Ali of Kabakhali in Dighinala upazila, was the general secretary of ward no-4 of BNP Kabakhali union.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station, said Chan Mia was killed around 11:00pm on Thursday on his way to Khagrachhari.
Youth's body recovered

Police recovered the decomposed body of a youth from a jute field at Mohammadpur Uttarpara village in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur yesterday noon.
The victim was Shahin, 20, son of Ansar Ali of the village.
The youth might have been killed around four days ago and the body was dumped there, said Islampur police Officer-in-Charge Kazi Saidur Rahman.
The body was sent to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Accused dies hit by tree while fleeing to avoid police arrest

An accused died instantly after he was hit by a tree while trying to flee to avoid arrest at Chhatarpaiya village in Senbag upazila early yesterday.
The deceased Abdur Razzak, 70, was an accused in land dispute case filed by one Khuku Miah of the area.
Victim's son Alam said the incident occurred when Senbag police besieged their house and his father, sensing police presence, was trying to flee through the rear gate.
Youth dies from electrocution

An electrician died after being electrocuted at Omarpur village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj yesterday morning.
The deceased was Titumir, 28, son of Alamgir of Pukuria village in Shibganj.
Shibganj police said Titumir came in contact with a live electric wire while he was repairing a wire in a house at the village around 7:45am.
He died on the spot, the police added.
School building for visually impaired girls inaugurated

A school building with special facilities, including computers with Braille software and Braille dictionaries, for visually impaired girls has been constructed with assistance from the Japanese government in Mirpur of the capital.
The building was inaugurated by Shiro Sadoshima, ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, on Wednesday, said a press release.
The Japanese embassy donated US$ 102,057 for the construction of the school under its Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects scheme and JICA Bangladesh delivered the Braille dictionary for the students.
