10 to vie for Magura mayoral by-election

Ten candidates submitted their papers till 5-00 pm yesterday,  the last date of filing nomination for the mayoral post in the bi-election to be held on May 6.
The candidates are former chairman of Magura municipality Mahbubul Haque Siddiquee, former chairman of the municipality Iqbal Akhter Khan, acting mayor of the municipality Mr Shahidul Islam Babu, former acting mayor of the municipality Tapon Kumar Roy, former mayor's son Khurshid Haider Tutul, municipality unit BNP leaders Ayub Hossain and Masud Hasan Khan Kizil, district Awami League (AL) leaders Munshi Rezaul Haque and  Mirul Islam and Jatiyo Party's central joint-secretary general also the district unit general secretary advocate Hasan Seraj Suja.
Schedule of bi-election for the mayoral post of Magura municipality was announced on April 1 as the post fell vacant following the death of Magura municipal mayor Mohammad Altaf Hossain. Altaf Hossain, also a veteran central leader of AL, died on February 12 due to old-age ailments.
