10 Shibir men held in capital
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested ten leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir at Sutrapur in the capital early Saturday.
The charges under which the arrest was made could not be known immediately.
The arrestees include president of Sutrapur unit of Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, said Fazle Rabbi, a senior assistant superintendent of police and acting operation officer of Rab-10.
Former presidents of Sutrapur Shibir unit, Kabi Nazrul College and Jagannath University units of the organisation are among the detainees, the Rab official added.
Details of the drive and detainees however will be available during a press briefing scheduled to be held at Rab-10 office in Saidabad later in the day.
The arrest was made around 12:30am on secret information.
The Rab men had information that the Shibir men were scheduled to hold a meeting at Nupur Community Centre in Sutrapur after completion of a marriage reception party of one of their activists.
Later, following information gleaned by the detainees, the law enforcers raided their mess at Swamibagh and seized huge number of books on jihad from the spot.
