1 to die, 4 gets life term for killing a man in Ctg

A court here on Monday sentenced one person to death in absentia and four others to life imprisonment for killing a man about eight years ago. Fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge M A Noor handed down the verdict, court sources said. The death sentence was awarded to Nizamul Haque, son of Mohammad Ali of Lalanagar village under Rangunia upazila of the district.

Two of the four convicted persons, who were given life term are absconding. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one more year in prison. The four are Mohammad Hasan alias Ruma, son of Emdadul Haque, Mohammad Khorshed Alam, son of Mohammad Meah, Jamal Uddin, son of Anwarul Islam of Lalanagar village and Rashed Talukder, son of Fazal Ahmed of Rajanagar village under Rangunia upazila.

The prosecution story in brief is that the convicted persons killed Shahedul Islam, son of Khairul Islam of Lalanagar village, on the night of May 15.

The court examined a total of 16 prosecution witnesses.

APP Advocate Mohammad Abdus Sattar pleaded for the state, while Advocate Deen Moni Dey stood for the convicted.
