1 held in capital
Eight days into the attack on a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), police arrested a man in the capital Wednesday night for his alleged involvement with the attack.
Arif Rayhan Dwip, a third year student of mechanical engineering department and also a member of the convening committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League Buet unit, was stabbed by an unidentified man at Nazrul Islam Hall in broad daylight on April 9.
He is now undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Square Hospital in the capital.
The arrestee was identified as Md Mezbah Uddin.
The detail of the drive was not known immediately.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police made the arrest acting on a tip-off, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The DB claimed that Mezbah is the person who stabbed Dwip indiscriminately with a machete on April 9.
Meanwhile, the Buet students refrained from holding classes for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday protesting the attack.
The students demanded that Buet security officials state their stance regarding the attack and that they, if found negligent in duty, be removed.
The students at a rally on April 16, also demanded a high profile probe committee to investigate the incident and removal of the Directorate of Students’ Welfare Director Delowar Hossain.
