Boy loses leg trying to jump onto train

A child severed his left leg at the knee while attempting to jump onto a running train in Chittagong Railway Station yesterday afternoon.
The incident occurred when Sadekul Alam, 10, son of Abul Kalam, of a nearby slum, slipped and the train rolled over his leg.
His father rushed him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Man arrested for 'immolating wife' in Ctg

A man, who went into hiding allegedly after killing his wife by setting fire to her in their Hathazari residence in Chittagong on January 20, was arrested yesterday afternoon.
Hathazari police arrested Sanjay Pal, 40, at Raozan Bus Stand.
Joya Pal, died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital on January 20 hours after Sanjay admitted her there with 95 percent burns.
Joya's father Gopal Krisna Dutta filed a case accusing Sanjay, his brother Dananjay Pal and Dananjay's wife Beby Pal. The other two are still absconding.
Youth found dead in Rangpur

An unidentified youth was found dead under Angur Mian Bridge in Mahiganj area of Rangpur city yesterday morning.
On information from locals, police recovered the body around 10:30am.
Md Abdul Qader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station, said the body bore several wounds.
Unknown miscreants might have killed him at a place and left the body there Friday night, the OC added.
The body was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
DMP celebrates 39th anniversary

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) yesterday celebrated its 39th anniversary at Rajarbagh Police Lines.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan attended the programme as the chief guest while Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmood Khandker and Senior Secretary to the Home Ministry CQK Mushtak Ahmed were present as special guests.
At the event, DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed urged the city dwellers to help the police in order to check crimes.
CVASU orientation for freshers held

The orientation programme for the new students under 2013-2014 academic session of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) was held on the campus yesterday.
Vice Chancellor Prof AS Mahfuzul Bari presided over the programme while State Minster for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury attended it as chief guest.
University Grants Commission member Prof Md Akhtar Hossain, PHP Group Chairman Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and CVASU Treasurer Prof Somen Dewan, were also present.
NSU spring semester orientation held

The orientation ceremony of spring-2014 semester for the newly enrolled students of 13 courses under North South University (NSU) was held on its Bashundhara campus in the capital yesterday.
Vice Chancellor Dr Amin U Sarkar, chaired the ceremony while NSU Trust BOT Chairman Ragib Ali was present as the chief guest, says a press release.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr ANM Meshquat Uddin, Proctor Dr Kazi Abu Sayeed, Students Club Coordinator Dr Emdadul Haq were, among others, present.
DCCI distributes blankets among poor in Rangpur

The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) distributed 250 blankets among cold-hit poor people in Rangpur city yesterday afternoon.
Under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), DCCI with the help of the Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) jointly distributed the blankets.
RCCI Senior Vice President Mojtoba Hossain Ripon handed over the warm clothes as the chief guest at a ceremony on RCCI Public School and College ground.
The school and college Principal AKM Hasinur Rahman and RCCI directors were present.
