Dismembered body found in capital

The body of an unidentified woman severed at the waist was found in two sacks dumped in the capital's Uttara yesterday morning.
The deceased, aged around 25, was wearing Salwar Kameez.
On information, a team of Uttara Paschim police recovered the bags dumped between two buildings on road-20 in sector-14.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Worker dies from electrocution

A polythene factory worker was killed after being electrocuted in Chawkbazar area of the capital yesterday.
The deceased was Mohammad Abdul, 30.
He got electrocuted when he came in touch with a live electric wire while pouring polythene in a recycling machine, said Chawkbazar Police Station Sub-inspector Ahmed Sharif.
Abdul was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two poachers held with elephant in Moulvibazar

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two elephant poachers, including an Indian national, in Muroichherra border area of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar on Thursday night.
BGB sources said acting on a tip-off, they held the Indian national, Oaresh Ali, and Ianul Haque, of the upazila, near pillar no-1842 at Muroichherra forest while they were smuggling an elephant to India.
The duo along with the animal were handed over to Kulaura police.
Miscreants set three shops ablaze in Jhenidah

Unidentified miscreants set three makeshift shops ablaze at Samanta Bazar in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah on Thursday night.
Moheshpur police said some eight miscreants looted a grocery shop and set it on fire using the fuel oil they were carrying in containers around 8:00pm. Then the gang armed with rods proceeded to torch a fruit shop and a food stall.
Police suspect that the shops were torched over previous enmity.
Locals doused the fire. Separate cases were filed.
RMG workers go on rampage for pay hike in Gazipur

Workers ransacked a textile factory and set fire to its furniture at Bariderchala in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur Thursday night demanding a pay hike.
Workers of Paramount Textile Ltd also blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for around one-and-a-half hours, said witnesses.
The factory owners promised time and again to increase their salaries but did not do so, the workers alleged.
However, Paramount Manager Fakhrul Islam claimed they promised to do so if the government declared a wage board only for the textile sector.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amir Hossain said the factory owners would discuss with the workers in this regard.
Derailment suspends train services on 4 routes for 4hrs

Train communications on four routes remained suspended for about four hours yesterday following a freight train derailment at Ashuganj station in Brahmanbaria.
The four routes are Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Noakhali and Dhaka-Chandpur.
Brahmanbaria Railway Station Master Amrito Lal Sarker said four wheels of the Chittagong-bound train derailed around 10:45am.
Woman found dead in house in Jessore

A woman was found dead in her Sharifpur village residence in Jhikargachha of Jessore Thursday night.
Police recovered the hanging body of Banya Khatun, 21, wife of Ujjal Rahman, said Jhikargachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Kamruzzaman.
The family claimed over dowry Ujjal hanged Banya after strangling her in a bid to project the incident as a suicide.
However, police refused to say anything until the autopsy report comes.
Ujjal and his family members are on the run.
