44 Bangladeshis detained in Thailand brought back home

Forty-four Bangladeshis detained in Thailand while trying to enter Malaysia using the sea route were brought back home yesterday evening, said the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training.
A total of 189 Bangladeshis were brought back from there over the last few months, said the foreign ministry.
BNP besieges Ctg PDB office protesting power outage

BNP leaders and activists besieged the Power Development Board office at Agrabad in Chittagong city yesterday protesting severe power outage.
Demanding uninterrupted electricity supply, BNP city unit General Secretary Shahadat Hossain alleged when the government was claiming the highest ever power production, the dwellers had been suffering from outage for 13 to 14 hours every day.
He demanded finding irregularities and corruption at PDB.
The participants threatened to go for tougher movements if their demands are not met.
Cuta observes one-hour work abstention

Chittagong University Teachers' Association (Cuta) observed second period of one-hour work abstention yesterday demanding expulsion of the students involved in September 10 attack on CU teachers.
It also demanded expulsion of those students from whose rooms, at CU halls, bombs were recovered.
Earlier, on Tuesday they also observed one-hour work abstention.
At least 15 CU teachers were injured when crude bombs were hurled allegedly by Shibir men at two buses carrying them.
Unidentified boy's body found in Ctg pond

Police recovered the body of an unidentified boy from a pond in Khejurtala Beribandh area of Chittagong city yesterday.
The boy, aged around 11, might have been drowned in the pond while bathing, said police.
His body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
CU Eid, Durga Puja vacation starts from Sep 27

The classes and admission tests under 2014-2015 academic session at Chittagong University (CU) will remain closed from September 27 to November 8 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja.
However, pre-scheduled examinations will be held as usual, said a CU press release.
Man dies as train hits him in Jamalpur

An unidentified man was killed after being hit by a train near Nandina station of the district yesterday.
The man, aged about 37, died on the spot, said police.
Police recovered the body, wearing pants and a check shirt, from beside the rail tracks.

Galleri Kaya extends Murtaja Baseer's solo exhibition

The ongoing solo exhibition of Prof Murtaja Baseer titled "A Collection of Drawings, Collages & Oil Pastels (1954-2014)" at Galleri Kaya has been extended for two days. The exhibit was originally supposed to end on September 25, now it will end on September 27. The exhibition will remain open daily from 11:00am till 8:00pm at House 20, Road 16, Sector 4, Uttara, Dhaka.
