Scholastica gets Odyssey Int'l Award

Five ninth graders from Scholastica won the best Atheistic Award in the sixth Odyssey International 2014 organised in India by City Montessori School, Lucknow, from August 23 to 26.
The students from the capital's Mirpur campus won the award for their performance in the category of Galactica (ramp show). Sixty nine schools of 13 countries participated.
SUB awards FIFA quiz winners

The State University of Bangladesh (SUB) gave prizes to the winners of FIFA WORLD CUP 2014 Quiz Competition at a ceremony held on the main campus in the capital on Monday.
Dr AM Shamim, president of the Board of Trustees of the university, was the chief guest. Twenty students of different departments received the prizes.
Ruta demands punishment for attacker of Sust teacher

Rajshahi University Teachers Association yesterday demanded exemplary punishment for the attacker of Neaz Ahmed, a professor of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet.
They also demanded proper investigation of the incident and expulsion of the attacker from the university.
On Thursday, Oyes Ahmed, a master's student of social work department, attacked Prof Neaz, head of the department and also vice-president of Sust Teachers' Association.
Man's body recovered

Police recovered the body of an unidentified man, aged around 26, from under a sand heap at Fortnagar of Dhamrai, on the outskirts of the capital yesterday.
The man wearing lungi and full-shirt might have been strangled and buried here. The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Learning centre for underprivileged children launched in N'ganj

An early childhood development centre for underprivileged children, run by Children and Earth Welfare Society (CEWS), an NGO in Dhaka, was launched at Koltapara in Sonargaon of Narayanganj yesterday.
Unicef students' representative from the University of Toronto Madiha Turshin and OCAD University Refaya Turshin inaugurated the centre, said a press release.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sonargaon Abu Naser Bhuiyan, CEWS Advisor Dr Shahida Akhter and CEWS Executive Director Sharif Uddin Ahmed, among others, were present.
