ATN Bangla's 17th founding anniversary today

The country's first satellite television channel ATN Bangla will celebrate its 17th founding anniversary today.
On the occasion, the private television channel will air special programmes all day long, said a press release.
ATN Bangla has been maintaining distinctive quality in telecasting news and programmes since its inception and has achieved different international awards.
The TV channel also gives priority to telecasting sports and organises ATN Bangla Gold Cup Football Tournament.

UK government marks 30 years of Chevening scholarships

To mark 30 years of the UK's most prestigious scholarship programme, over 500 Chevening scholars representing 118 countries gathered at Chevening House on July 9.
Minister of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Hugo Swire, hosted the event.
The Programme finances graduates around the world for postgraduation at British universities.
Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, Iceland Prime Minster and Dr Hania el Sholkamy, professor of Social Research Center, the American University, Cairo, were present among others.

Road crashes kill two, injure one

Two people died and another was injured in road accidents in the country yesterday and Sunday.
Our Chuadanga correspondent reports, a person died and another was injured when a microbus hit a motorcycle in Joyrampur Kathaltola area on Damurhuda-Darshona road in the district yesterday.
The deceased was Rafuiqul Chowdhury, 45, of the upazila
Our Jamalpur correspondent adds Abdus Salam, 55, of the district died when a pick-up van ran him over while he was crossing Malgudam road in Jamalpur town on Sunday.

RU student dies hit by train

A Rajshahi University (RU) student died after she was “hit by a train” at Fine Arts rail gate in Rajshahi city yesterday.
Israt Arefin, 19, a first-year student of applied mathematics, resided in the city's Hatem Khan Moore.
She was talking over the phone while crossing the rail track, witnesses said.
She was declared dead at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after two-hour treatment.
However, after primary investigation police said she might have committed suicide.

Woman killed by sister in Ctg

A woman was killed at her husband's house allegedly by her sister and sister's husband following an altercation over land disputes in Raozan upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
The decased was Halima Akther, 26, wife of Babul Miah, of the upazila. Her throat was slit, said police.
Police arrested Babul, Halima's sister Jannatul Begum, and Jannatul's husband Md Solaiman from the spot.
