Youth beaten to death in capital

A mob beat a youth to death suspecting that he was a thief in the capital's Uttara area early yesterday.
The deceased, Suzon Mia, 19, was a restaurant employee.
An under construction building's security guard Abul Kashem's son Nazrul caught him at the building after a ceiling fan had been stolen from there on Thursday, said Uttara Paschim police Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam.
Later, locals gave him a good beating killing him instantly, he said. Police detained Kashem and his wife Ambia while Nazrul fled, he added.
Zainal wins Chand Sultana Award

Zainal Abedin, a rickshaws puller, has won Chand Sultana Award-2013 for his social activities.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki as chief guest handed over the award at Dhaka Ahsania Mission auditorium in the capital's Dhanmondi on Wednesday, says a press release.
The award initiated by DAM consists of cash Tk 1 lakh, a crest, a certificate and a set of books and training materials published by late Chand Sultana, a social worker.
DAM President Kazi Rafiqul Alam was also present.
Man hit with brick bat dies

A man died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital seven hours after he was hit with a brick bat during Thursday night's storm at East Islambagh in the capital's Chakbazar area.
Nure Alam,l 45, an employee at a scrap metal shop, was injured while returning home.
Fateja Begum said his husband entered the house with severe head injury around 11:30pm and was rushed to the hospital. An unnatural death case was filed, said police.
Schoolboy killed in clash over cricket

A schoolboy died yesterday after being injured with four others in a clash over playing cricket in Iswardi upazila of Pabna on Thursday.
Nahid Hossain, 14, son of Akmal Hossain of Pakuria village of the upazila, was a class-nine student of Pabna Sugar Mills High School. He died at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Police sent the body to Pabna medical college hospital for an autopsy.
Swechhasebak League man's body found

Police recovered the hanging body of an Awami Swechhasebak League activist from an under-construction building near his Purkayostha Para village residence under Osmaninagar upazila in Sylhet Thursday afternoon.
Arjun Bhowmik, 20, who was missing since Sunday, might have committed suicide, Family said.
Police sent the body to MAG Osmani Medical College for an autopsy. An unnatural death case was filed.
Boy killed in road accident

A six-year old kid died on the spot after being hit by a motorbike in Umedpur village of Zianagar upazila in Pirojpur on Thursday noon.
Sheam, son of Masud Sheikh of the village, was hit when he got down from a three-wheeler.
Police arrested the motorbike driver, Jewel, 25, of Togra village in the upazila.
Jewel, also injured, was admitted in Pirojpur Sadar Hospital. A case was filed.
Worker dies from electrocution

A worker died after being electrocuted in Dehati Pole Factory in Shantashpur village under Jibannahar upazila in Chuadanga yesterday morning.
Family said Rasel, 20, son of Abdul Malek of the village, came in contact with live electric wire while repairing an electric switch board in the factory.
Locals took him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors delared him dead.
35 held at Benapole while trying to intrude into India

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel detained six children, 12 women and 17 men while they were trying to intrude into India through Putkhali Border in Benapole port thana on Thursday.
BGB officials said the Bangladeshis, of Narail and Faridpur, paid a broker in Balur Math are to help them cross the border without legal documents.
The Bangladeshis were handed over to Benapole port police. A case was filed.
