Man dies as train hits him

A man died after a train hit him at Kuril level crossing in the capital yesterday morning.
The deceased, Kumar Bijoy Chandra, 27, an engineer, used to reside in Dhanmondi.
A Sylhet-bound train, Parabat Express, hit Bijoy while he was crossing the rail tracks, said Dhaka Railway police.
The body was handed over to his family.
House burnt to ashes in Gazipur

Three residential rooms along with valuables of small trader Yusuf Ali were gutted in fire, originated from an electric short circuit, in Paburiarchala village under Sreepur upazila of the district on Saturday.
Rajabari UP member Jahangir Alam said Yusuf had lost all his belongings, excluding his clothing, before they noticed the fire.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
14 illegal structures demolished in Ctg Railway station area

The Bangladesh Railway authorities (East Zone) yesterday demolished 14 unauthorised structures, including a shop and a billboard, in Chittagong Railway Station area.
A team, led by Chittagong District Administration Executive Eagistrate, Asif Imtiaz, conducted the drive from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
The structures, mostly makeshift, were the den of illegal activities, said Abdul Bari, Chittagong divisional estate officer, BR.
DoE fines two factories Tk 31 lakh for polluting environment

The Department of Environment (DoE) fined two factories of SA Group Tk 31 lakh for polluting environment by discharging effluent through non-functional effluent treatment plants (ETP) and not having environment clearance certificate in Chittagong yesterday.
They also served a notice to the factory authority for hearing.
Koica workshop held in capital

“Safety Awareness Workshop for KOICA Volunteers and Advisors” was held at Spectra Convention Centre in the capital's Gulshan yesterday.
Around 46 volunteers and advisors and Kim Bok-Hee, representative of Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica), participated among others, said a press release.
At the workshop, mechanism of evacuation and communication during natural disasters, information on safety measures while dealing with indigenous diseases of Bangladesh and its precautions were discussed.
More than 450 Koica volunteers have served different Bangladeshi government agencies since 1993.
