Train derails
Train communication on several routes from Mymensingh was disrupted for ten hours as two compartments of a Chittagong bound freight train derailed at Balashpur area in the district town yesterday.
Police and railway sources reported no casualties in the accident.
Railway sources said the train heading for the port city met with the accident when two of its compartments derailed at Balashpur, about three kilometres away from Mymensingh station at around 7:00am.
Rail communication between Mymensingh-Chittagong, Mymensingh- Mohanganj, Mymensingh-Kishoreganj, Mymensingh-Bhairab, and Mymensingh-Jaria were disrupted for about ten hours, said the railway sources.
The accident halted some 12 scheduled trains at different stations that run on the routes every day, they added.
Contacted, stationmaster of Mymensingh junction Md Nazrul Islam told The Daily Star that a relief train reached the spot soon after the accident and salvaged the derailed wagons.
Communication on the route resumed around 5:00pm.
