Khaleda warns govt not to take anti-nation steps
Opposition leader Khaleda Zia once again assured the government of her cooperation in protecting national interests but warned that resistance will be built up with people in case of anti-people and anti-nation steps.
“Think of national interests first, we'll give you all supports. But we'll build up a resistance with people if steps are taken against their [people's] interests. Even we'll not hesitate to announce an action programme,” she said.
The former prime minister made the comments when a BGMEA delegation led by its president Abdus Salam Murshedy met her at her Gulshan office last night.
She said the present government made pre-election commitments to the people as well as to those who helped them to get installed in power.
Khaleda said unfortunately the government has become desperate to meet its commitment to the domestic and external forces that helped them return to power instead of fulfilling its commitment to the electorate.
“But, one should remember that people are the source of power though external clique has installed them in power by stealing votes,” she said, asking the government to concentrate first on improving the law and order situation.
She said people will take to the street if the commitments made to them are not fulfilled. Then their foreign bosses will not come in rescue, she added.
BGMEA President Murshedy urged the government to bring back the opposition to parliament by meeting their problems.
