'Ban political parties based on religion’
Liberation War organisers, freedom fighters and politicians of Manikganj yesterday demanded trial of war criminals and a ban on the political parties based on religion.
They also called on the Election Commission (EC) to keep religion-based political parties and war criminals out of polls.
The call came from Engineer Tobarak Hossain, a commander in Manikganj during the Liberation War, Mofizul Islam Khan Kamal, an organiser of the Liberation War and former lawmaker, Iqbal Hossain Khan, a JSD leader and freedom fighter, Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, an Awami League leader and freedom fighter, Azharul Islam Arzu, a CPB leader and freedom fighter, Delwar Hossain Harej, an organiser of the Liberation War, and freedom fighters Abdus Salam Bulu and Dipak Ghosh.
Urging the EC not to allow registration of any religion-based political parties, they said the EC would be accused of violating the constitutional oath if it gives registration to any such political party.
They also condemned the remarks made about the Liberation War by Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed and Shah Abdul Hannan, a Jamaat sympathiser and former Secretary.
They demanded immediate arrest and punishment of Mujaheed and Hannan as their remarks signal a deep-rooted conspiracy against the nation.
Only the unity of people of all walks of life who believe in the spirit of Liberation War can put an end to such conspiratorial and provocative remarks, they said and called on all to unite like during the Liberation War.
