Housewife held for torturing domestic help

Police detained a housewife on charge of torturing her domestic help, which sparked violent protests by local people in the city's Badda area last night.
Police said the locals thronged advocate Khalil's house at Aftabnagar in the area hearing the screaming of domestic help Shahar Banu, 16, while his wife Zannath Jeba was torturing her around 6:00pm.
They said locals rushed to Khalil's six-storey building and rescued the domestic help.
On information, police rushed to the spot. They picked up the housewife and took the domestic help to their custody.
Jeba said she did not torture her but she (Banu) sustained injuries after falling onto the bathroom.
Quoting Banu, Officer-in-Charge Kazi Wazed Ali of Badda Police Station said Jeba used to torture Banu that left her injured.
He said the victim has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
