Jawans to get back arms soon

Says BDR chief

Bangladesh Rifles Director General Maj Gen Md Mainul Islam yesterday said BDR members would get back their arms very soon.
Talking to The Daily Star, he said, "We are considering taking back the arms from the civil administration and hand over to soldiers gradually as the situation is normal now."
Our correspondent from Chapainawabganj reports: Addressing the Darbar of Chapainawabganj 39 battalion headquarters in the morning, the border security forces chief praised jawans for doing their jobs perfectly on bordering fronts.
Civil administrations seized firearms from all BDR battalion and sector headquarters following a handout issued by the government after the February 25-26 carnage at the Pilkhana BDR headquarters in the capital.
Mainul told The Daily Star that only arms of BDR men stationed at the border outposts and in Chittagong Hill Tracts were not seized.
The BDR chief told jawans at Chapainawabganj that the trial of BDR mutineers will be completed as soon as possible and innocent border guards need not be afraid as only those who committed crimes on February 25 and 26 would be punished upon evidence.
