Three 'muggers' bullet-hit in fight with cops
Three suspected snatchers sustained bullet injuries in a shootout between them and police in the city's Rayer Bazar early yesterday.
The injured were identified as Lutfur Rahman, 45, Mahbubur Mia, 39, and Noor Hossain, 30, hailed from Shahali area in Mirpur. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Mohammadpur police said a patrol team of Rayer Bazar police outpost came under gun attack near Rayer Bazar killing ground in Mohammadpur around 4:30am, prompting them to fire back that ensued a gun battle between the police and the criminals for about 10 minutes.
After the gun battle, police recovered a taxicab, a knife, a mobile set and a lady's bag from the spot, they said.
Police said they found the three bullet injured criminals lying on the spot while some others fled the scene.
Two of the criminals received bullets in their legs while another in the head, said Sub-inspector (SI) Animesh Chandra Sarkar of Mohammadpur Police Station, adding that constable Shahidullah of the police outpost also sustained minor injury during the shootout. ASI Moinul filed a case with the police station in this regard.
