Charges pressed against 28 BNP, Jamaat men
Charges were yesterday pressed against 28 people, including Assassuni upazila Juba Dal General Secretary Nurul Haque, in the case filed last month alleging ransack of Assassuni upazila Chhatra League (BCL) office.
The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, Satkhira.
The other charge-sheeted accused are Idris Ali, Nur Islam, Karim Sardar, Kamal Hossain, Rajab Ali, Tutul, Ruhul Amin Bhandul, Morshed Ali, Ruhul Amin, Khorshed Ali, Abdul Mazid, Shakil ahmed, Kena gazi, Mizanur Rahman, Mostafa Moral, Senat Sardar, Abdul Wadood, Arshad ali, Bakul Gazi, Ferdous, Nazrul Islam, Bara Babu, Palash, Morshed Alam, Rashidul Alam, Dablu, and Shahidul Islam. All of them are leaders and activists of local BNP, Jamaat and their front organisations.
Sources said the investigation officer (IO) allegedly dropped names of four accused--Jewel, Ebadul, Jamal and Nur-e-Alam--from the charge-sheet as the complainant 'failed to prove' the charges brought against them.
On May 28, local leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, youth and student fronts of BNP and Chhatra Shibir, student front of Jamaat-e-Islami and BCL, student front of ruling Awami League (AL) clashed over distribution of relief goods among the cyclone Aila victims at Assassuni.
To retaliate, leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, and Chhatra Shibir attacked the BCL office and desecrated the portraits of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina there.
BCL leader Mahitur Rahman filed a case with Assassuni Police Station against them under the speedy Trial Act.
