Clash with Cops

200 BNP activists sued

About 200 BNP men were sued yesterday for clashing with police at Kotwali in the city on Sunday.
A total of 15 people, including three policemen, were injured in the clash between BNP activists and police.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Afaz Uddin of Kotwali Police Station filed the case against Naju, Mintu, Arif, Sheikh Mohsin, Saikat, Ishak Sarkar and Mohammad Mohan and 150 to 200 unidentified people on charges of creating obstacles to the law enforcers in discharging their duties, holding rally without prior permission from the police and damaging police vehicle.
However, no one has been arrested yet.
Witnesses said the clash erupted when the leaders and activists of BNP were marching towards Dhaka Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office to submit a memorandum as part of the party's countrywide programme.
As police obstructed the BNP procession at Tantibazar crossing, the BNP activists hurled stones and brickbats at police, leaving three policemen injured and damaging a police vehicle there.
