British team due in city today
A six-member delegation of six young British Bangladeshi professionals will arrive in the city today on a five-day visit with an aim to strengthen the bonds between the expatriate communities living in the UK and Bangladesh.
Emphasising the importance of bond, the delegation will participate in extensive discussions across several sections of society with the major themes being education, religion, sports, politics and social integration, says a release of British High Commission yesterday.
Stressing the need for diversity in the UK, highlighting the achievements of the expatriate community in several spheres, projecting a liberal outlook of Islam as held by the Bangladeshi community in Britain, dispelling possible misconceptions related to the Bangladeshi community, and acquiring more in-depth knowledge about Bangladesh in general are some of the major points of the visit.
In reaching these objectives, the delegates will also go to Sylhet, visit a madrasa, participate in TV talk shows, visit a top-level football club, interact with Bangladeshi students and exchange views with the local civil society members.
Coming from varied backgrounds, the delegation features an author, a TV presenter, a former football player and sports organiser, a journalist, an Islamic studies scholar and a successful British Bangladeshi entrepreneur.
