Khulna demands fund for 17 dev projects
Greater Khulna Development Action Committee (GKDAC) has demanded allocation of necessary fund in the upcoming national budget for implementation of 17 projects for economic development of Khulna region.
The demand was made at a press conference held at the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday,
The press conference was addressed by president of Greater Khulna Development Action Committee Alhaj Liaquat Ali, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications Ministry engineer Mujibar Rahman, lawmakers M A Jabbar and H M Golam Reza, and president of the Dhaka unit of Khulna Association Md Fakhruddin Ahmed.
The 17-point demand includes ensuring immediate gas supply through pipeline, modernisation of Mongla Port, reopening of all closed mills and industries including Khulna Newsprint Mill, re-excavation of all silted rivers, building of an eco-friendly tourism infrastructure to protect the Sundarbans and modernisation of Bhomra land port.
The president of GKDAC, Liaquat Ali, in his written statement read out at the press conference hoped that the government would meet all the demands and make necessary budgetary allocation.
