EC to train up 16,000 teachers in capital
The Election Commission (EC) will train up around 16,000 school and college level teachers who take part in field level voter registration process in the capital from December 1.
"As many as 15,855 teachers will receive the training in the capital in seven phases from October 29 to November 19. For this purpose, 90 educational institutions will be used as training centres," said Education Additional Secretary Abdul Awal Mujumdar yesterday after holding a meeting with teachers and EC representatives at the education ministry.
He also said the training will run in two shifts -- morning shift from 9:30am to 12:30pm and evening shift from 2:00pm to 5:00pm -- so that academic activity is not hampered.
EC Deputy Commissioner Biswas Lutfor Rahman said the voter registration with ID cards in the capital will begin on December 1 and continue until January 31.
"Four hundred educational institutions in the capital will be used as voter registration centres. The list of voter registration centres will be announced tomorrow [today] and the respective schools and colleges will also be informed then," he told reporters.
Besides this, 33 server centres will be opened with Mahanagar Natta Mancha as the main server centre, he added.
Mujumdar said the school annual examinations will be held between November 24 to December 4. Some of the schools will have to change their annual examination schedules as all institutions are not used as registration centre and the process is not held simultaneously.
He also said the ministry asked the EC to postpone the voter registration task on December 10-11 as junior scholarship examinations are set to be held then.
Among others, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Director General Prof Nazim Uddin and headmasters and principals of different institutions in the capital were present.
