The High Court (HC) yesterday granted ad interim bail for six months to former BNP lawmaker Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan from Khagrachhari in a corruption case.
Wadud was sentenced to 20 years' in jail in this case filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC).
A division bench of the HC comprising Justice AFM Abdur Rahman and Justice SM Emdadul Hoque granted the bail upon a pending appeal filed by Wadud against his conviction.
His lawyer Barrister Anwarul Islam Shahin yesterday told reporters that there is no legal bar to his client's release on bail following the HC order.
He also said Wadud has secured bail in the other cases against him.
On July 22, 2007, Chittagong Divisional Court sentenced Wadud Bhuiyan to 20 years' imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000 for concealing information about Tk 6.36 crore of his assets in the wealth statement submitted to the ACC during a massive anti-graft drive.
Bhuiyan was arrested on February 4, 2007 at the start of the crackdown on corruption launched by the previous caretaker government.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed appeared for Bhuiyan.
