One killed in gunfight over char land
One person was killed and 30 others were injured yesterday in a gunfight between two groups over the control of an alluvial land from the Padma River at Sultanpur in Natore.
The diseased could not be identified. The injured were admitted to the Rajshahi Medical college Hospital, Bagha Hospital and nearby clinics.
The clash erupted on Friday morning between Lalchand group and Panna group.
Lalpur police station sources said Lalchand group of Philipnagar Char under Doulatpur upazila of Kushtia had had a rivalry with Panna group under Lalpur of Natore over the control of chars for a long time.
Shahin, a robber of Lalpur, has been leading Panna group since its leader Panna was killed in Rab crossfire.
Lalchand group suddenly attacked Jamshed of Bilmaria under Lalpur upazilla yesterday and the clash started, locals said.
Mohammad Ali, officer in-charge of Lalpur police station said the situation was under control.
