Interns go on strike at MMCH
Some 110 interns at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) went on an indefinite strike from yesterday protesting the assault on them by a dead patient's attendants on Saturday.
Hospital sources said patient Mohammad Ali, 52, a Hindupalli resident of the district town, was admitted to Ward-13 of MMCH around 1:00pm Saturday as he was vomiting blood.
Soon after his admission, the doctors asked the attendees to collect blood but they failed to manage it, the sources added.
Later the patient died around 4:30pm.
Following the death, relatives rushed to the spot and started scolding the interns.
At one stage, the agitated attendees assaulted Dr Md Anisur Rahman, the assistant register of Unit-4 at Ward-13 and also threatened the doctors with life, added the hospital sources.
The interns immediately informed the MMCH authorities about the incident demanding arrest of the attackers and their security.
The interns vowed to continue their movement until their demands are fulfilled.
A case was lodged with Kotwali Police Station in his regard.
