Trial of war criminals soon: Sajeda
Deputy Leader in Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury yesterday said the trial of war criminals as well as execution of the verdicts of Bangabandhu murder case and jail killing case would be started soon.
“It is our solemn duty to safeguard the country's independence from the clutches of anti-liberation forces. As the part of our duty, we are to bring the war criminals to trial immediately,” she said.
Sajeda was speaking as the chief guest at a programme at Ambika Maidan in Faridpur organised to accord a reception to the ministers and lawmakers in greater Faridpur as well as distribute scholarships to meritorious students.
The programme was jointly organised by Greater Faridpur Garments Owners' Association and Faridpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry with lawmaker Tipu Munshi in the chair.
Labour and Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the function, while Commerce Minister Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan and lawmakers Shajahan Khan and Abdur Rahman were present as the special guests.
Mosharraf said, “Faridpur is deprived of all kinds of development activities since independence. We will have to give priority to develop the district.
A marine technology institute will be set up here within a year, he declared.
A 50 to 100 megawatt power plant will be set up in Faridpur, he added.
AL presidium member SM Nurunnabi, Sahiduzzaman Chayan, president of garment owners' association, Awlad Hossain Babar, president of Faridpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Mahatab Ali Mithu, mayor of Faridpur municipality, also spoke.
A total of 50 meritorious students of greater Faridpur were awarded at the programme.
