Electronic goods worth Tk 16 lakh seized at ZIA

A surveillance team of the customs at Zia International Airport (ZIA) yesterday seized a huge quantity of electronics goods worth Tk 16 lakh and arrested a person on charge of smuggling the goods from Singapore.
Besides, the customs authorities filed a case with Airport Police Station, accusing that an employee of Casual Traffic Loader of Lost and Found branch of Bangladesh Biman was involved in the smuggling attempt.
Abdus Sattar Mollah of Jajira in Shariatpur was held with the goods. He was handed over to Airport police.
But Biman employee Mohammad Israfil went into hiding soon after the incident.
Customs sources said the goods were smuggled from Singapore by a Bangladesh Biman flight. The customs officials seized the goods after scanning the luggage of the arrestee.
