Arrest warrant against ex-ASP Munshi Atiqur
A Gopalganj court yesterday issued arrest warrant against three people including former senior ASP of CID Munshi Atiqur Rahman.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Golam Murshed issued the warrant as they did not appear before the court to give deposition in the case of attempting to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in July, 2000.
Two others against whom the court issued the arrest warrants are Second Officer of Gopalganj Kotalipara Police Station SI Noor Hossain and a public witness Ahad Hossain.
Munshi Atiqur Rahman was the plaintiff of the case in which
17 people including Harkat-ul- Jihad (Huji) leader Mufti Abdul Hannan Munshi were accused.
Sources said though the court asked the authorities concerned to produce main accused Mufti Abdul Hannan Munshi and his brother Mohibullah, another accused, before the court they were not produced.
The court fixed June 30 as the next date for the hearing of the case.
Hasina was to join a rally at Sheikh Lutfor Rahman Degree College ground at Kotalipara on July 23.
Mufti Hannan along with his followers planted two 76-kg huge remote control bombs at the venue in a bid to kill her.
But the plan was foiled as the bombs were recovered one day before the rally.
