Dhaka stocks finish up
Dhaka market continued its positive run for a second straight day, backed by the bank stocks.
The benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSE General Index, yesterday gained 29.6 points, or 1.21 percent to 2,467.39. The DSE All Share Price Index also rose by 23.2 points, or 1.14 percent to 2,052.08.
Similar to Sunday, the banks lifted the index even though most other sectors lost, according to a daily market analysis by Equity Partners Limited (EPL), an investment bank.
It said about half of the banks gained more than 5 percent, with some gaining more than 10 percent.
Biggest gainers were Trust Bank, which rose by 17 percent, IFIC Bank by 15 percent, Uttara Bank by 11 percent, Mutual Trust Bank by 11 percent, AB Bank by 10 percent and Eastern Bank by 10 percent.
The EPL analysis said among other sectors, cement and general insurance ended higher, while services and real estate sector was the biggest loser.
The advancers beat the losers by 125 to 118. Five securities however remained unchanged. A total of 2,25,90,071 shares worth Tk 389.60 crore were traded on the premier bourse.
Beximco topped the turnover leaders, followed by Summit Power, S Alam Cold Rolled Steels, AB Bank, Uttara Bank, Shinepukur Ceramics, Titas Gas, Beximco Pharma, BD Online and Powergrid. Beximco topped the list, with 12,16,600 shares worth Tk 30.32 crore traded.
Chittagong stocks also continued to soar yesterday. The CSE Selective Categories Index gained 70.86 points, or 1.4 percent to 5,112.31. The CSE All Share Price Index increased by 95.7 points, or 1.22 percent to 7,893.18.
A total of 50,64,046 shares worth Tk 54.94 crore changed hands on the Chittagong Stock Exchange. Of the traded scrips, 78 advanced, 87 declined and five remained unchanged.
AB Bank topped the turnover leaders on the port city bourse, with 98,270 shares worth Tk 5.76 crore traded. The other turnover leaders were Beximco, Shinepukur Ceramics, Beximco Synthetics, AIMS 1st Mutual Fund, Uttara Bank, Eastern Housing, Grameen Mutual Fund One: Scheme Two, Beximco Pharma and BRAC Bank.
