Call to implement Anti-tobacco strategic plan

Anti-tobacco activists yesterday demanded the complete implementation of the National Strategic Plan of Action for Tobacco Control (2007-10), formulated by Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
The demand was made at a human chain formed by the Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance and Madok Drabya O Nesha Birodhi Council (Manobik) in front of the National Museum in the city.
They also called for implementation of 'Graphic Health Warning' for creating mass awareness about the negative effects of tobacco.
They said the health warning written on tobacco products is almost worthless as many people in the country are illiterate.
The speakers called upon the authorities concerned to take effective steps for prevention of smoking.
