BCL groups fight for control of RMC campus
Two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League Rangpur Medical College (RMC) unit chased each other yesterday and the day before to take control of the college campus.
BCL men belonging to Tamim and Sohel group along with some outsiders attacked the supporters of BCL Sanjoy Kumar faction on Saturday and ousted them from the campus. They also ransacked five rooms of their rivals at Zia Hostel.
Yesterday morning, Sanjoy group took control of the campus ousting Tamim and Sohel group. After a few hours, the supporters of Tamim and Sohel with the help of some outsiders swooped on their rivals and forced them to leave the campus.
Meanwhile, the RMC authorities have postponed political activities on the campus indefinitely. The authorities announced it after a meeting of the academic council yesterday.
Some leaders and activists of Sanjoy group yesterday met the principal of the college and urged him to take action against the activists of Tamim and Sohel group who ransacked five rooms at Zia Hostel.
Police have been deployed on the campus.
