Theatre festival in Sylhet

A theatre festival began at the M Saifur Rahman Auditorium of the Sylhet city recently. Natyaloke, Sylhet staged “Shapludu” of Babul Ahmed on the first night of the festival.
The festival celebration committee took out a procession through the city, marking the start of the occasion. Convener of the committee Mahbub Ahsan Chowdhury chaired the inaugural function, while city mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran was the chief guest and eminent educationist Professor Mohammad Abdul Aziz formally inaugurated the festival. Udichi president Barrister Arosh Ali also delivered a speech.
Kadir Ahmed Chowdhury, Mahbub Chowdhury, Khowaj Rahim Sabuj, Farzana Zahan Tarin, Nurjahan Jasmine, Farzana Jahan, Pinki and Achinta Amit formed the cast of “Shapludu”. The play attracted much attention from the audience.
However, the second play, “Ingan Adhar Pala” of the Manipuri Theatre, Moulvibazar could not be staged on Thursday due to the tense situation country wide in the wake of the BDR mutiny. It will be staged later.
Nagarnat Sylhet staged the third play “Hardhanu bhanga” on Friday night. Shihab, Arup, liza Johnny, Nayeem, Shanto, Matiur, Sholak, Jhuma, Kochi , Matiur, Polash, Uthpal and Arup (junior) played the main roles of the play which is based on the Ramayan.
However, the fourth play-“Khela khela” which was scheduled for Saturday by Srote Natyadal, Sylhet and the fifth play, Udichi Sylhet's presentation “Chokhey Angul Dada”, scheduled for Sunday were suspended because of the national mourning day.
Khowai Theatre of Habiganj will stage “Dawal” on March 2 and Natyamanch Sylhet is scheduled to stage “Kalantar” on March 3. Natyaniketan Sylhet will stage “Lajja” on March 4 while Sylhet proscenium will present their production “Sajano Bagan” on March 5. Kathakoli Sylhet will stage “Court Martial” on March 7 and the concluding play on March 8 will be Natyaloke, Sylhet (Ambarkhana)'s production “Boudir Biye”.
