Arrest warrant against 5 absconders
The chief judicial magistrate's court of Satkhira yesterday issued a warrant of arrest against five absconding accused including two BNP leaders in the sensational Dhandia Union Parishad (UP) chairman Arifuzzaman Chanchal murder case.
The accused are Dhandia BNP general secretary Abdul Malek Lablu of village Senergati, Dhandia Jubo Dal president Ruhul Quddus of village Khordo, Sudhanya Saha of village Krishnanagar and Nur Islam of village Sarulia Guchcha gram in Tala upazila and Mahitosh Hazra of village Satiantala in Sadar upazila.
Chief judicial magistrate Ranu Bilkis Banu issued the order as they failed to appear before court within the stipulated period.
Criminals abducted and strangled Dhandia UP chairman Arifuzzaman Chanchal, son of Asir Uddin of village Sharsha in Tala upazila, on October 12 last year. The victim was also a member of the district BNP convening committee.
Soon after the incident, police arrested six accused who are now in jail. They are Humayun Kabir and Zobeda Khatun, wife Nurul Islam of village Sarulia Guchchagram, Shahin of village Katakhali and Firoz Khan of village Khordo in Tala upazila and Rabiul Islam Sardar of village Shankarpur in Jhhikargachha upazila and Shawkat Ali of village Joypur in Manirampur upazila in Jessore.
The victim's mother, Jahanara Begum, filed a case with Patkelghata Police Station and since then the five accused were absconding, court sources said.
After investigation police submitted charge sheet against 11 people including five absconding and six detained accused.
The ministry of home affairs at a meeting held at its conference room on February 18 listed the case as a sensational murder case, court sources said.
