Ensure women representation in CHT local bodies
Women leaders at a workshop said representation of women in every sector in the CHIT region is a must to strengthen their rights.
Green Hill, a development organisation, organised the workshop titled 'Stakeholders views to strengthen women rights in CHT' at Rangamati Tribal Culture Institute yesterday.
The women in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), particularly the indigenous women, are lagging behind due to discrimination by the male, women leaders said adding that they are being deprived from all kinds of rights.
They urged the government to enact new laws ensuring the rights of the women in indigenous communities.
They also demanded representation of women in the CHT Regional Council and three hill district councils as those local government bodies are apex bodies for development in the region.
Dipankar Talukder, state minister for CHT affairs ministry, addressed the function as the chief guest.
Tuku Talukder, Donald Prue Marry, Nuku Chakma, among others, spoke at the programme.
