86 made joint secretaries

In a major decision, the Awami League (AL) government yesterday promoted 86 deputy secretaries to the rank of joint secretary.
The mid-level civil servants have been attached to the Ministry of Establishment as officer on special duty (OSD). “They will get new postings soon,” a senior official of the ministry told The Daily Star.
He said the latest decision was the part of government's ongoing reshuffle move in the civil administration. “More changes of mid-level officials and field level administration are in the offing,” he added.
Promotion of officers was due after 72 joint secretaries were made additional secretaries earlier this month. The other positions have remained vacant for a long time.
After assuming office on January 6 the government also promoted 10 additional secretaries to the post of secretary.
Many bureaucrats questioned the promotion and transfer process alleging that the government was not following rules and maintaining transparency in this regard.
They alleged that the officials loyal to the government were being given priority in both promotion and transfer process.
