Eden College student brutally killed in city
Police recovered the slit-throat body of an Eden University College student from her uncle's home in Lalbagh last night.
The body of Poly Rani Halder, 23, of Pirojpur, was recovered from the kitchen of her maternal uncle Shoilendra Mitra's home, on the second floor of a seven-storey building, around 10:30pm.
Lalbagh police said they detained Shoilendra, an accountant of a bangla daily, and his son Swaswata, 22, a cultural activist, for interrogation.
Local sources said Poly had been staying at her uncle's for several years. They said her throat was slit with a kitchen knife and her body had other stab wounds too.
Sub-inspector Emran Hossain of Lalbagh Police Station said they could not ascertain the motive behind the killing.
Soilendra said he, his wife and son were out. "I had to enter the house unlocking the door as it was locked from the inside… I found her lying on the floor," he said, adding, "I then called my son over telephone and informed the neighbours of the matter."
Law enforcers from Criminal Investigation Department, Detective Branch of Police and Rapid Action Battalion rushed to the spot.
