Fresh case filed accusing 42
Forty-two more people, including the brother of AL lawmaker Shamsur Rahman Dilu, have been sued in a fresh case filed in connection with Kamalpur char clash that left five people dead.
Nazir Pramanik, father of slain Amin Uddin, filed the case with Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Pabna, on Thursday accusing 42 people, including former UP chairman Anisur Rahman Sarif, also the brother of AL lawmaker Shamsur Rahman Sarif from Pabna-4 constituency, court sources said.
At least five people were killed and 20 others injured in a violent clash between two groups of villagers over capturing char (shoal) in the Padma at Char Kamalpur village in Ishwardi upazila on February 9.
The dead were identified as Ayub Hossain alias Ayet Pramanik, Rashid Pramanik, Moslem Uddin, Shirjan and Amin Uddin.
Two cases--one by Sattar Pramanik and another by Najir pramanik of Kamalpur village--were filed with Ishwardi Police Station the following day, accusing about 600 people. Of them, 91 were identified while the rest unidentified.
After filing of the cases, police arrested 26 people in connection with the incident and produced them in the court. The court rejected the bail prayers of the arrestees and sent them to jail.
Normalcy is yet to returned to Kamalpur village as most of the people of the village are still on the run.
“We are not harassing any innocent people. We are looking for the culprits involved in the clash.” Said OC of Ishwardi Police Station.
