Statement of witness recorded
A Dhaka court yesterday recorded the statement of one more prosecution witness of the August 21, 2004 grenade attack cases.
Iqbal Atahar Tutul, a resident of Khilgaon area, appeared before the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 and gave his deposition.
Judge Mohammad Masdar Hossain the recorded statement of the witness and fixed February 18 for next hearing of the cases.
The court also summoned four other prosecution witnesses -- Kabir Uddin Shikder of Narayanganj, Mohammad Akkas of Khilgaon, Mohammad Salam of Kotwali and Mohammad Solaiman of Comilla -- to appear before the court on the scheduled date.
In his deposition, Tutul mentioned that on August 21, 2004 he learned that his friend Shamim's father was injured in the grenade attacks carried out on the Awami League (AL) rally at Bangabandhu Avenue. On hearing the news, he went to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) to see Shamim's father Rafiqul Islam at around 8:30pm and learnt that Islam had already died.
The next day Sub-Inspector Sharif Faruque Ahmed, also the complainant of the cases, prepared an eight-page inquest report on the eight victims, including Shamim's father. Witnesses signed this report, Tutul said.
