Tk15 lakh valuables stolen from shops, house in city
Burglars stole valuables worth around Tk 15 lakh from five shops at Sundarban Square Market at Gulistan and from a house at Mohammadpur in the city yesterday.
Traders said burglars broke into electronic goods shops -- Shahida Trade International, Sky Line Trade International, AK Telecom, Hikire Technology and another one of the market at night and took valuables worth Tk 9 lakh and cash Tk 3 lakh.
Following the burglary several hundred traders put barricade on the road in front of the market disrupting traffic movement for three hours yesterday demanding security of the market.
On information, police rushed to the spot and based on their assurance of recovering stolen goods and strengthening security of the market the traders lifted the barricade.
Meanwhile, thieves stole six tolas of gold ornaments and cash Tk 21,000, US$ 100, Thai Bath 2,000, and other valuables worth Tk 3,000 from the house of one Tareq Aziz Khan of government staff quarter at Asad Gate.
Nobody was at the house from 7:00am to 2:30pm and during that time burglary was committed.
