RU acting VC resigns

Acting vice chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU) Prof Mamnunul Keramat resigned yesterday in the wake of demonstration by pro-Awami League students' and teachers' organisations.
Prof Mamnunul, also pro-VC of the university, told The Daily Star that he faxed his resignation letter to the chancellor at 12:30pm yesterday. In the letter he informed the chancellor that he could not discharge his duties in the prevailing situation.
He also mentioned that it was very difficult for him to perform as a pro-VC and acting VC.
The pro-Awami League (AL) teachers and Bangladesh Chhatra league (BCL) of RU unit issued a 24-hour ultimatum on Saturday demanding his resignation.
Pro-AL employees, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, JSD-backed Chhatra league and Progressive Students' Alliance also staged separate demonstrations on the campus.
