Our pride
We, Bengalis, have many reasons to take pride in ourselves; we fought for our language in 1952, fought for our identity and liberty against the Pak occupation forces n 1971we obtained independence after a long struggle. We have our cultural mooring intact and vibrant, and keep on upholding the sense of our national self-respect and the sense of "enlightenment" amid all odds. We've so far been standing tall; we will be doing so in the days ahead.
Take the example of Prof. Abdullah Abu Sayed's Bishwa Sahitya Kendra (World Literature Centre) enterprise, for example. He had single-handedly founded this unique institution long 30 years back; it celebrated, very proudly indeed, its 30 years of service the other day. The service it renders is allowing the younger generation to read books simple math, right?! But the task , as we all know, demands a huge funding , a skilled and dedicated team, a vision and the implementation of it all --- hmmm, Himalayan task! For, they deliver the books to the readers across the country on big four wheelers visiting the enthusiasts from door to door willing readers can hire books at a nominal rent and go reading! The variety that it covers is indeed the globe-tottering one it covers almost all the literatures of the world!
While marking this great day in our calendar, Prof Sayed was happily composed and declared that he needs to have about ten lakh readers in near future! The visionary is working hard on his unique conviction. Hats off to Prof Abdullah Abu Sayed. And heartfelt thanks to the individuals involved in this revolutionary task of ushering in the reading habit into the young blood.
We wish the enterprise all luck!
