Lord Buddha and Lanka today
Lord Buddha believed in the religion of non-violence. He taught his disciples to love human beings, to serve human beings. He himself rejected his luxurious life and the authority of a prince for the sake of knowledge. The people who follow his teachings are known as Buddhists.
However, today people belonging to all religions respect him.
But what is being done by the Sri Lankan government? Sri Lanka claims itself to be a Buddhist country. But the strategy which the Lankan government took to fight against LTTE is totally against the philosophy of Buddhism. Couldn't they find any other way? Every day a group of Tamils are killed mercilessly. They are even destroying hospitals. Will they spare the common Tamil civilians? I do not think so. They are taking all measures so that the common civilians cannot escape through the sea. Probably, they want to kill each and every Tamil. What a great idea!
Is this called Buddhism? After the battle of Kalinga, Asoka embraced Buddhism. He sent his son to Sri Lanka for preaching Buddhism. Does the Sri Lankan government know it? If Asoka were alive today! What would be his reaction?
It is regrettable that the UN is not paying any heed. They are not even discussing the matter to find a solution.
