Protect Chalan Beel, Boral river
Speakers at a meeting yesterday demanded of the government to protect the Chalan Beel and Boral river from illegal occupation by stopping their leasing.
They also called for opening embankments on the Boral and their sluice gates, and re- excavation of the river by demarcating its boundary.
The speakers made the demands at a view exchange meeting under the banner of 'Deteriorating Chalan Beel and Boral River: How to protect them?'
at China Camp Conference Centre at Boraigram in Natore.
It was jointly organised by Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (Bapa) and Boraigram Unnayan Samity.
Presided over by Abdus Sattar, the meeting was addressed by Bapa General Secretary Abdul Matin and its Joint Secretary Sharif Jamil.
Representatives of different professional groups including teachers and lawyers of the area attended the discussion.
They said the Chalan Beel and Boral river have been polluted by industrial wastes and occupied by land grabbers causing hindrances to smooth flows of water and damaging the environment.
