Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday directed the authorities concerned to take initiatives to set up fire stations in all upazilas, particularly in the industrial areas.
Hasina made the directive while chairing a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (Nicar) at her office at the Secretariat.
At the meeting, Nicar decided that fire stations would be set up in six upazilas -- Sherpur in Bogra, Srinagar in Munshiganj, Dayarampur in Natore, Chowarabazar in Comilla, Harinakundu in Jhenidah and Pekua in Cox's Bazar.
"But the prime minister suggested that fire stations need to be set up in all upazilas and asked the officials to come up with proposals and logistics needed for such a project," said Press Secretary to the prime minister Abul Kalam Azad.
A total of 111 employees will be appointed for the new fire stations, the Nicar meeting decided.
The meeting also decided that a new upazila comprising 10 unions of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila will be created.
