Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury yesterday said the country would once again achieve self-sufficiency in food.
She was speaking as the chief guest at the annual prize giving ceremony and cultural programme of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College at the school playground.
She also said the gulf of class between rural and urban educational institutions has to be abated.
“We were self sufficient in food during the Awami League regime in 1996-2001, we will achieve it once again and it is not impossible,” said the agriculture minister.
Saying that the new government led by Sheikh Hasina has proved women can also work in responsible posts, she urged the students of the school to study hard to prepare themselves for the competitive world.
Matia said, “In our country, guardians of a female student have to spend a lot of time for taking her to the school and bringing her back because of lack of security. The new government will ensure their security.”
She said the government would also investigate into the corruption regarding students' admission in the school.
Acting principal of the college Rokeya Akter Begum presided over the prize giving ceremony that was also attended by members of the governing body Dr Md Mujibur Rahman, Ataur Rahman, Khandakar Afroza Begum and Dr Zakirul Islam.
